The Mersey Observatory

Phos Architects have achieved second place in a two-stage international competition organised by the RIBA to design a new observatory in Liverpool, UK.

The proposed Mersey Observatory will allow visitors and residents of Liverpool to view the world famous city like never before. The proposed building represents a physical and metaphorical torch of guidance and warning, of information and reassurance, of changing seasons and attitudes within the city.

The shortlisted design by Phos Architects in collaboration with Buro Happold engineers formed part of an exhibition to celebrate Liverpool as European Capital of Culture 2008.
